We are very excited to welcome members back on site for the start of the winter season!
With recent changes to Covid mandates and an influx of teams and players expected at the National Hockey Centre (NHC) this weekend, it is timely to provide this update for our hockey community. With the potential for things to change again soon, this update applies to NHC operations through to Easter Friday 22 April (subject to any changes being made in the period).
Our aim is to provide clarity for NHHA members and the best possible customer experience for our community in the safest possible environment.
Clubhouse: The main Clubhouse remains closed. All food and beverage will be offered via the Food Truck located on the Village Green. With capacity limits remaining at 100pp maximum, and with multiple entry and exit points to the main Clubhouse, the running costs, and risks associated with opening the main Clubhouse remain extremely high. The Food Truck and Village Green experience will be enhanced through this period with food and drink specials on offer.
Changing rooms re-open: With capacity limits remaining in effect, only 6 of the 8 changing rooms will be open. We ask everyone to please play their part considering the demand on this space. We ask that teams move quickly through the changing rooms/showers and not linger any longer than necessary. Please hold team talks and de-briefs outdoors in the Village Green hospitality or Team Zones.
No spectators: Unfortunately, spectators are still unable to be accommodated at the NHC. We understand spectators are an important part of the sport we love, but with capacity limits at 100pp per zone, this remains the safest way to ensure we remain safe and do not exceed our limits. However,
- Understanding hockey is very much a family sport – dependent children under the age of 14 can be accompanied by a parent/caregiver. This is to allow parents or caregivers who are unable to find suitable supervision for their children the opportunity to bring them with them to their match.
Vaccine passes – The NHC remains a vaccinated site. Anyone aged 12-years and 3-months and over must provide their Vaccine Pass (or exemption pass) to enter the NHC unless the following applies:
- Child/ren playing for a school in any sport are not required to have a vaccine pass to play at any venue in NZ. This is great news for our kids physical and mental wellbeing.
- All adult/parent coaches, managers, or support staff are still required to have a vaccine pass if teams are playing at a vaccine required site.
- If the same child is 12-years and 3-months or older, and playing for a club team, at a venue such as the National Hockey Centre that is a Vaccine Required Site, then a vaccine pass is still required.
Welcome back to winter hockey and thank you for your patience and understanding! Like you, we are hopeful of Covid restrictions ending soon so we can get back to having a full and vibrant National Hockey Centre open to everyone.
Best of luck to all in your pre-season games this weekend!
