At Harbour Hockey we are made up of a number of different clubs which form our association. Each one of these clubs has its own unique history, culture and way of doing things. 

If you are looking to get involved in Hockey or return to the sport joining one of our clubs is the way to do it. Below is a breakdown of the information available on each club and a contact form below to get in touch with them. 

summer competition

Year 1/2 fun sticks

  • The primary purpose of this competition/programme is to give children the opportunity to play hockey in a fun, friendly, and inclusive environment.

  • The objective is to introduce players to the game of hockey and to help them develop basic individual skills, including grip, dribbling, ball control, passing, receiving, tackling, basic elimination, and distribution. Additional team concepts to develop space awareness, vision, and calling.

  • Games are played on Monday evenings between 4.00 pm and 6.00 pm approx.

  • Maximum of 4 players plus one adult on 1/8 turf – No goalkeepers.The role of the adult/team coach is to help the game retain its structure and encourage all players to be involved in the game.

  • Remember that a child scoring a goal will enjoy the game more than a parent stopping a goal. 

  • Gameplay: 13 minutes of basic skills training with your team and then 13 minute game (with a 2-minute break)

  • An NHHA coach will support each team coach during the 13 min skill training. Hockey equipment, drill design, and technical support will be provided.

  • Your team coach will need to be present for the game and actively involved in the skills training however NO hockey knowledge or experience is required by the team coach.

  • The skill training element allows each child to learn basic skills to feel more confident during the game.

  • Junior Hockey 4 aside Rules apply.

North Harbour Hockey offers a range of Summer Hockey competitions for Primary and Intermediate school aged students so that players of all ages & levels can receive a world-class hockey experience.

Teams are entered through your Primary School, Please contact your school teacher-in-charge

Primary & Intermediate School Summer Hockey runs throughout Term 4 on Mondays and Tuesdays.

 

All games are 30 minutes in duration

Grade Offerings: Boys, Girls and Open Grades for all competitions

Open grade has no rules on the team make up based on gender.

Please note that we may be required to combine grades depending on team entry numbers.

A player from the same school may play up one age group but not lower than the one in which he/she is registered, i.e., a year 4 graded player may play up to a year 5/6 team if required but a year 5/6 player may not play down into a year 3/4 team. This rule is to be applied only when teams require to fill in players to field a team. i.e., covering sickness and Injuries.


Games must start and finish on time according to the bell.


Mouth guard, shin pads, and stick are compulsory for all players.


All teams must provide their own umpire and ball.


Cancellations will be posted on the website by 2 pm on the day of play.

primary & intermediate summer hockey

YOUTH GRADE RULES & REGULATIONS

Players are to be current Year 7 – Year 10 inclusive.

All teams may register a maximum of 16 youth players in each team.

Adult players must be 18+,but are not required to be registered.

“A” Grade Youth teams can have two adults on the match card but only one on the field playing at any point of time.

“B “Grade Youth Teams can have 2 adult players on the match card and playing on the field for any one game.

A maximum of one adult player can be in the defensive circle at any one time.

This adult player must not remain stationary within the circle for more than 3 seconds. *The intention of this rule is to stop adult goaltending.

No Adult player may be in the attacking circle at any time.

Adult players/participants are to uphold the spirit of this competition, which is to guide and encourage the players and not have a significant impact on the outcome of the game. NHHA has the right to remove any adult player/ participant from the competition if it is deemed they have broken the spirit and intention of this competition.

Male and Female Adults are not restricted to playing within their genders, players may take the field for both the boys and girls grades.

Any player registered in the “A” Grade may not play down to the “B” Grade, but “B” Grade players may play up for the “A” grade team. Clubs with multiple teams within one grade can pull players between the teams to make up numbers.

Male and Female Goalkeepers are not restricted to playing within their genders.

In the case of No GK, teams must discuss before the game starts as to how PC’s will be played out. Once agreed, the umpire must be informed.

Options to be considered:

Adult player to wear Helmet

Youth player to wear Helmet

No lifting / no hitting

The game duration will be15-minute quarters (2-minute break and 3-minute half time). Games must start on time.

Teams must be outfitted in uniforms of the same colour, e.g. Shirts & Socks.

Starting 9 October 2023 – 11 December (9 weeks). No play on Labour Day (23 October 2023)

North Harbour Hockey offers a range of Summer Hockey competitions for Year 7-10 students so that players of all ages & levels can receive a world-class hockey experience.

Youth Grade Summer Hockey runs throughout Term 4 and is played at the National Hockey Centre.

Monday Nights

All games are 60 minutes in duration.

Boys & Girls Grades (No Mixed Gender Grades)

The purpose of the Youth Grade Competition is to assist clubs in recruiting future members and player development, and it is a great way to start a future allegiance to a North Harbour Senior club for your hockey.

youth grade (years 7 - 10)

North Harbour Hockey offers 7 aside & 9 aside Adult Summer Hockey Competitions across a range of Grades so that players of all ages & levels can receive a world-class hockey experience.

Mixed & Female Leagues are offered.

Players must be 14 years and above.

Tuesdays Start Dates: 10 Oct 2023 to 12 Dec 2023 (10 weeks), Recommence 16 Jan to 13 Feb 2024 (4 weeks). No Play Waitangi Day 6 Feb.

Thursdays Start Dates: 12 Oct 2023 to 14 Dec 2023 (10 weeks), Recommence 18 Jan to 8 Feb 2024 (4 weeks).

Game times run from 6.00-9.00pm & are 30 minutes in duration.

Get a team together with your mates and enter the appropriate grade of your choice!

adult summer hockey

7 a-side information

  • Players of all levels.

  • Played on 1/2 turf.

  • Mixed teams are to have a maximum of 4 males on the field at any time.

  • No Goalkeepers or Kicking Fullbacks.

  • There are two leagues: Tuesday League & Thursday League. There is no difference in skill, and this provides convenience to our members who may not be able to play on certain days.

  • Entry Fee: $725.00 inc GST.

9 a-side information

  • Limited spaces are available.

  • Tuesday is intended to be a high-level; Premier, Premier Reserve level.

  • Thursdays are intended to be more social, including Premier 3 skill levels.

  • Played on Full Turf.

  • Mixed teams to have a maximum of 5 males on the field at any one time.

  • Goalkeepers are voluntary but preferred.

  • Entry Fee: $950.00 inc GST

Pre-Christmas Masters 

Competition Start Dates: 11 Oct 2023 – 13 Dec 2023 (10 weeks).

Teams are entered through your Clubs, Please contact your Club

AGE eligibility: Pre-Christmas competition players must be 33 as of 31 December 2023.

Grades offered are; A Grade, B grade and 60+ Grade. 

Game duration will be 4 x 15 minute quarters. 5 minute half time & 2 minute intervals.

Umpires Division to appoint umpires where possible, and clubs will be notified when they are required to provide club-appointed umpires.

Games must start and finish on time according to the umpire’s whistle.

Teams must be outfitted in uniforms of the same colour, e.g., Shirts & Socks.

Games are to be played under normal FIH rules

Post-Christmas Masters – Starts 17 January 2024 – 7 Feb 2024 (4 weeks)

Presidents 

Competition Start Dates: 13 Oct 2023 – 15 Dec 2023 (10 weeks). Recommencing 19 Jan 2024 – 9 Feb 2024 (4 weeks).

Friday Presidents competition is focused on providing a summer competition for new to hockey players wanting to try out Hockey and/or for returning hockey players wanting to get back into the sport. Please keep this in mind when entering a team in this competition to align with the purpose.

 

AGE eligibility: Over 35 (in addition to the below allowance)

A CAP of a maximum of 3 players per team between the ages of 30-35 years.

​Any players that are outside of the above criteria i.e., not new/returning to hockey are participating with the intent to support the purpose of Presidents Grade whereby guiding new players and supporting a safe playing environment.

Game duration will be 4 x 15 minute quarters. 5 minute half time & 2 minute intervals.

Umpires are not provided for this competition, clubs/teams will need to provide their own.

Teams must be outfitted in uniforms of the same colour, e.g., Shirts & Socks.
